Our History
Muurrung Marai is a locally owned and operated business, servicing the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie & Hunter Valley for various tours across our great region. Muurrung Marai is owned by Amos Simon, who wants to provide educational tours across the region, particularity focused on the 60,000 years plus of Aboriginal culture, living and breathing today. Muurrung Marai also caters for tour bus hire for any event you are going to, whether it be a day at the Hunter Valley wineries or a concert in Newcastle.More about Amos
Amos is a local Newcastle Aboriginal man who has grown up around the harbour with his family including three brothers and his sister. Amos is well known throughout the Aboriginal community, having been an active member of the Local Aboriginal Land Council where he held the position of Chairman. Amos was also a regular position holder for the Mankillikan Aboriginal Education Consultive Group and President of Westlakes NAIDOC Committee.
Amos is a Wiradjuri & Worimi man who has lived and breathed his culture his entire life. Amos is a very active member in the community, helping Aboriginal youth and adult males where he can, mentoring them to support their wellbeing and assist in managing mental health. Through mentoring we meet individual needs to address drug and alcohol use.
Amos has participated in sporting teams, being involved with the rugby league Newcastle first grade, Newcastle Knights Development Squad and Aboriginal Knockouts
